Knowledge Management and Innovation leadership development programme

Background
Leadership development programmes of organizations follow models that are based on courses.   Some of these  courses are attended by some senior managers and middle managers an organisations. Considering the 70-20-10 % approach to leadership development (www.clomedia.com) these kind of programmes are perhaps covering the 10% without touching 90% of the process of developing leaders.   This 70-20-10% model suggests that 70% of learning in developing leadership comes from the job itself, 20% from feedback, observation and role models and only 10% from executive education programmes.  It is not clear as yet whether this programme achieved the 10%,or more or less.   Stock of how many of the managers attended this course should be taken. Also an evaluation of the impact of this course is necessary to see what else is needed  to cover the remaining 90%. The following framework is developed as a basis for further interrogation and fleshing it out for a comprehensive leadership development programme.

Important Questions to ask

  1. Who should be developed?
  2. How do we identify talent?
  3. What aspects of development and for whom?
  4. How do we develop skills?
  5. What programmes?
